Madhu Vaishnav, founder of The Institute for Philanthropy and Humanitarian Development (IPHD), and Suzanne Blair present the IPHD projects in the village of Bhikamkor in the region of Rajasthan (India). The experience of IPHD shows the interconnections among education, health, local culture, economy, sustainability. The projects’ focus is on women and gender issues. It provides a perspective of what holistic approach means in the experience of the IPHD and what are the challenges faced by this type of approach to local and sustainable development in traditionally and impoverished communities such as the one of the village of Bhikamkor.
